Hey guys sometimes it can get a little repetitive answering the same question 10 times over on IG so I’m making it a little easier to find information about particular products so you have a point of reference to come back to.
The first product that I just had to share with you is this soya bean ‘cod fillet’ which I picked up doing the rounds at my local oriental supermarket in the frozen section. I recognise the taste and texture from a few eateries that I’ve been to and it’s definitely one to try.
Ingredients: Soya Bean Protein (40%), Water, Modified Potato Starch, Vegetable Oil, Seaweed, Sugar, Salt, Spice & Seasoning.
I defrosted the ‘fish’ to cook, however, it can be cooked from frozen.
The dark green layer is seaweed which just adds to the taste and texture.
I made a quick and easy batter of just plain flour, Himalayan salt, water & smoked paprika into a light custard consistency. Cut fish into strips and dipped the pieces in and then shallowed fried them until browned and crispy. Which was about 2-3 minutes tops.
Look at the texture. It really looks like flaky pieces of cod.
In a nutshell I love it. It’s a decent price for what you get and saves you having to pay a mortgage for someone to make you the same thing at a restaurant.
P.s ‘If you’re vegan why are you eating things that look and taste like the things you don’t eat?’
Erm….No blood no bones (shoutout to CookDaily for that one) end of conversation!
